Lola and I

We (Lola and I) have been making stuff since, well, forever ... We threw pots, did oil painting, bread baking. We made goofy plaster animals with balloons, we made papier mache puppets. We etched copper and painted batique banners, pored candles and tooled leather. All this thanks to an artistic mom and the inclination to create. So now, a day out of the studio feels unfinished, unproductive, wrong. "How will I deserve my nap if I don't finish (or at least start) a project?" How fast should an "Artiste" work? Is one a failure if one is surrounded by projects that are mostly unfinished? What is Folk Art? Is it "Real" art? Is it For Folks? By Folks? Who are these Folks anyways? Are we folks? Where does the urge to create come from? And so, after much thought, I wonder," Is it a form of NESTING? Nesting is a national pastime. It's why we shop, cook, garden, do laundry. It's evidence that we are alive! Nesting is a specialty here at The Majestic. Beautiful things to look at. Comfy things to sit on. So, every time you fluff a pillow, water a plant, plan a meal, change a light bulb, shop for a gift, you are nesting; being creative, being alive. You are planning to be alive with others too. You are looking forward to being alive with your people. like I do with Lola. We make stuff. We crochet and knit and patch things. We have frosty beverages and snacks. It's uplifting and important. So go, be alive with your people! Be creative! Enjoy yourself. Eat food you made for friends, share stories you created with family, celebrate the importance of your sharing good stuff together, your creative stuff, with those you love. Go nest! It's good for everybody.
